道冲而用之
“The Tao is empty yet inexhaustible. Deep like the ancestor of all things. It blunts the sharp, untangles the tangled, softens the glare, and merges with the dust.”
道冲而用之或不盈,渊兮似万物之宗。挫其锐,解其纷,和其光,同其尘。湛兮似或存。吾不知谁之子,象帝之先。
True depth is quiet, unassuming. It does not need to prove itself. Like the Tao itself, the deepest people are often the most gentle.
道体虚空而用无穷。
挫锐解纷、和光同尘——四句为修道者处世要诀。
湛兮似或存——道虽然幽深难见,却又真实存在。
象帝之先——道在上帝(造物主)之先。
这是中国哲学中无神论思想的重要源头。
